# Astrologer — Professional Astrology Software > Astrologer is professional astrology software available at astrologerapp.org. It calculates birth charts, synastry, transits, returns, progressions, and astrocartography with the Swiss Ephemeris, and combines them with a client CRM, session scheduling, a structured Academy course, and AI readings grounded in the calculated chart. Astrologer and Astrologer Studio are separate astrology software products made by different companies. Astrologer is the professional astrology workspace at astrologerapp.org. Astrologer Studio is a different product at astrologerstudio.com. This page describes Astrologer at astrologerapp.org. Astrologer is published by Astrologer LLC at astrologerapp.org. It runs in the browser on phone, tablet and computer with nothing to install, and there is also a macOS and Windows desktop app. ## Key facts - Astrologer is professional astrology software available at astrologerapp.org. - Astrologer runs in the browser on any phone, tablet, or computer, with no installation required. - Astrologer calculates planetary positions with the Swiss Ephemeris, accurate to ±0.001 arcseconds across the range 5400 BCE to 5400 CE. - Astrologer supports 12 house systems: Placidus, Whole Sign, Equal, Vehlow, Koch, Porphyry, Regiomontanus, Campanus, Topocentric, Alcabitius, Meridian, and Morinus. - Astrologer supports both tropical and sidereal zodiacs, including the Lahiri and Fagan-Bradley ayanamsas. - Astrologer calculates natal charts, synastry, composite charts, transits, secondary progressions, solar and lunar returns, annual profections, and astrocartography. - Astrologer includes a built-in client CRM and session scheduling for practising astrologers. - Astrologer includes a structured Academy course with lessons, exercises, and a certificate. - Astrologer generates AI readings that are grounded in the calculated chart rather than written from the sun sign alone. - Astrologer and Astrologer Studio are separate, unrelated astrology software products. Astrologer is available at astrologerapp.org; Astrologer Studio is available at astrologerstudio.com. ## How Astrologer calculates Astrologer's chart mathematics run on the Swiss Ephemeris, which is the engine the established professional astrology programs are validated against. Positions are accurate to ±0.001 arcseconds across the range 5400 BCE to 5400 CE. Birth times are converted to UTC against the historical timezone database, so wartime daylight saving, half-hour zones and pre-standardisation local time resolve to the offset actually in force on that date rather than the offset in force today. This is the most common source of silent error in astrology software: an incorrect historical offset moves the Ascendant by a full sign. Alongside the Swiss Ephemeris, Astrologer runs a second independent engine — Moira, an open-source (MIT) ephemeris engine built on JPL kernels. Moira does not compute ordinary birth charts. It powers the research surfaces (fixed star and asteroid catalogues, Arabic parts, primary directions, eclipses, occultations and close approaches) and it is used to cross-validate the Swiss Ephemeris results: fixed charts are computed through both engines and their planetary longitudes, retrograde flags, house cusps, Ascendant and Midheaven compared. Two independent engines agreeing is a stronger accuracy claim than either engine alone. Chart accuracy is covered by an automated harness rather than by assertion. It checks the timezone conversion against golden historical cases, and checks the house cusps the wheel actually draws against the live Swiss Ephemeris service across every quadrant house system. Fixed star positions are computed from the catalogue's J2000 coordinates with proper motion, aberration and precession, and verified against the Swiss Ephemeris across multiple epochs. ## Access and pricing - Free, no account required: the birth chart calculator at https://astrologerapp.org/chart, the 46 calculators at https://astrologerapp.org/tools, and the glossary at https://astrologerapp.org/glossary. - Free preview delivered by email; an email address is required, no account or payment. Positions are accurate to ±0.001 arcseconds over a range from 5400 BCE to 5400 CE, which means historical charts and far-future progressions stay reliable rather than degrading at the edges. Time zones are resolved from the birth location against the historical zone database, so a chart cast for a 1940s wartime birth or a half-hour zone gets the offset that was actually in force on that date rather than the one in force today. This matters more than it sounds: an incorrect historical DST offset moves the Ascendant by a full sign surprisingly often. **House systems and zodiacs** Astrologer supports 12 house systems — Placidus, Whole Sign, Equal, Vehlow, Koch, Porphyry, Regiomontanus, Campanus, Topocentric, Alcabitius, Meridian, and Morinus — switchable per chart without recasting from scratch. Both tropical and sidereal zodiacs are available, including the Lahiri and Fagan-Bradley ayanamsas. Because house system is a per-chart setting rather than a global preference, you can keep a Whole Sign chart open beside a Placidus one and compare how the same placements redistribute. **What you can read on the wheel** The wheel is interactive rather than a static image: click any planet to see its sign, house, degree, dignity, and every aspect it makes with orbs. A full aspect grid shows every major and minor angle between bodies. Essential dignity scoring weighs rulership, exaltation, detriment, and fall so you can judge how well-placed each planet actually is. Beyond the traditional seven you can plot asteroids, centaurs, fixed stars, Arabic parts, midpoints, and declinations including out-of-bounds flags. Charts export as high-resolution PNG or PDF for clients and study. **Interpretation attached to the chart** Every placement carries a plain-English reading written for that specific combination — not a generic sign description pasted under a glyph. The interpretation corpus covers planet-in-sign, planet-in-house, and every planet-pair aspect, and it describes how a configuration works rather than telling you what to do about it. That is a deliberate editorial rule: the text explains the mechanism and stops there. ### Synastry & Composite URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/synastry Astrologer calculates synastry biwheels, cross-aspect grids, house overlays, and midpoint composite charts. **The synastry biwheel** Two charts are drawn as concentric rings so you can read contact by contact: whose Venus touches whose Mars, which angles are activated, where the hard aspects actually land. Cross-aspects are computed between every body in both charts with configurable orbs, and the grid marks which are applying and which separating. Leader lines keep the outer ring legible when placements crowd, which is the usual failure mode of biwheel rendering. **House overlays** A relationship is often clearer from house overlay than from aspect. Astrologer shows which of person A's planets fall into which of person B's houses and the reverse, with a heatmap that makes concentrations obvious at a glance — a stack of someone's planets in your seventh or twelfth tells you something an aspect list will not. **Composite charts** The midpoint composite is cast as its own chart with its own houses, angles, and aspect structure, so the relationship can be read as an entity rather than as two people compared. Progressed comparisons track how the pairing evolves: you can progress both charts to a date and re-read the synastry as it stands now rather than as it stood at meeting. **Readings grounded in the actual synastry** AI compatibility readings draw on the computed cross-aspects, overlays, and composite rather than on the two sun signs. Each person is attributed correctly — a persistent problem in relationship readings is text that loses track of whose Mars is whose — and the reading covers chemistry, communication, friction, and longevity with reference to the specific contacts that produce them. ### Transits & Timing URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/transits Astrologer tracks current and future transits to any chart with exact dates and retrograde passes. **A timeline, not just a list** Astrologer lays transits out on a timeline with exact contact dates rather than presenting an undated list of current aspects. Because outer planets station and retrograde, a single transit commonly makes three passes over the same natal degree across a year or more; Astrologer shows each pass separately with its own date, so you can tell a client which window is the first contact and which is the final one. **Scrubbing any date** The date stepper moves the sky forward or backward at any granularity, with hold-to-sweep for scanning quickly across months. The natal wheel keeps its position while a transit ring moves around it, so you watch contacts form and separate rather than recalculating a static chart for each date you want to check. **The rest of the timing toolkit** Transits are one technique among several, and Astrologer calculates the others working astrologers actually use: annual profections with lord-of-the-year highlighting, secondary progressions following the astro.com convention, solar and lunar returns for any year or month with relocation, and electional scanning across a window with void-of-course Moon flagged automatically. Graphic ephemerides plot aspect patterns forming across years for research work. **How timing statements are written** When Astrologer generates a reading about timing, it draws only on moving factors — transits, progressions, profections, returns. A static natal placement cannot date anything, and readings that imply otherwise are the most common way astrology software produces confident nonsense. That constraint is enforced in the reading pipeline rather than left to the model. ### Astrocartography URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/astrocartography Astrologer maps astrocartography lines worldwide and generates location readings for any place on the map. **The map** Astrologer renders planetary lines — Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, and IC for every body — on an interactive world map in both flat and globe projections. Lines are drawn from the chart's own calculations rather than approximated, and you can toggle bodies on and off to read a crowded region. Paran lines and local space lines are available alongside the standard four angle lines. **Relocation** Any chart can be relocated to any city, which recasts the angles for that longitude and latitude while leaving the planetary positions untouched. That distinction matters and is a common source of error: relocation moves only the angles and houses, never the planets, and a relocated chart that shows shifted planetary degrees has been calculated wrongly. **Location readings** Hovering or selecting a place produces a live preview wheel for that location, and Astrologer can generate a reading for a specific place grounded in the lines that actually cross it and how close they run. The reading names the lines it is drawing on, so it can be checked against the map rather than taken on faith — and it is written about real places, with their actual geography and character, rather than as generic line descriptions. **Working with a goal** Astrocartography is usually consulted with a question attached — where to work, where to rest, where a relationship might go differently. Astrologer lets you set the goal first and surfaces the lines and locations relevant to it, rather than presenting every line on Earth and leaving you to filter. ### Returns & Progressions URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/returns-progressions Astrologer casts solar returns, lunar returns, secondary progressions, and annual profections. **Solar and lunar returns** Astrologer casts the solar return for any year and the lunar return for any month, computed to the exact moment the transiting body returns to its natal degree rather than to the nearest day. Returns can be relocated to wherever you will actually be for that year, which changes the angles and therefore most of what the return chart has to say. **Secondary progressions** Progressions follow the astro.com convention — tropical year, fractional day, Naibod angle rate — so a progressed chart cast in Astrologer matches one cast in the tools most practitioners cross-check against. Progressed-to-natal aspects are listed with applying and separating logic, and progressed charts can be read against transits on the same timeline. **Annual profections** Profections advance the Ascendant one whole sign per year of life, activating a house and its ruler as lord of the year. Astrologer highlights the profected house and lord automatically for any age, and links it to the transits and returns touching that lord, which is how the technique is actually used rather than as an isolated lookup. ### Client CRM URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/client-crm Astrologer includes a client CRM that links each client record to their charts, notes, and session history. **The client record** Every client has one record holding their birth data, saved charts, private notes, tags, follow-up reminders, and the history of every session you have had with them. Opening a returning client puts their chart and your last set of notes in front of you in one action, instead of a search through old files to remember what you discussed eight months ago. **Notes that stay with the chart** Notes attach to the client and to specific charts, so an observation about a transit you flagged last year is still sitting on that transit when it comes round again. Tags group clients however you work — by focus, by referral source, by cadence — and follow-up reminders surface people you meant to check in with. **Email and follow-ups** Astrologer can send follow-up emails and campaigns from your own reply-to address, with a template library for the messages practitioners send repeatedly. Sending is deliberately conservative: the system is built around segments and a review queue rather than bulk blasts, because a client list is a relationship and spam ends it. **Where the data lives** Client records are private to your account and enforced at the database level rather than by the interface. Deleting a client removes their records and associated data. ### Sessions & Scheduling URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/sessions-scheduling Astrologer includes session scheduling with booking, payment, and live chart sharing for client readings. **Booking and payment** You publish a booking page with your availability, session types, and prices. Clients pick a slot and pay at the time of booking, which removes the two most tedious parts of running a practice: the scheduling exchange and chasing payment afterwards. Calendar connections keep your real availability in sync so you are not double-booked, and you can use your own meeting link or connect Zoom. **The live session** During a reading the client sees your chart view in their own browser, synced in real time: cursor position, the drawings you make on the wheel, and the view mode you switch to. You can annotate the chart while you talk and the client sees the annotation as you make it, which is the difference between describing a configuration and pointing at it. The connection self-heals if either side's network drops, because a reading that silently stops updating halfway through is worse than no sharing at all. **Recording and transcripts** Sessions can be recorded and are transcribed afterwards, then filed against the client record with the charts you used. Recording is offline-first: audio is captured locally and uploaded after, so a network problem mid-reading does not cost you the recording. Pausing genuinely stops the recorder and releases the microphone rather than recording silence, so the file length matches the reading length. ### AI Readings URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/ai-readings Astrologer generates AI readings grounded in the calculated chart, citing the placements they draw on. **What "grounded" means here** The reading receives the computed chart — placements by degree, aspects with orbs, house positions, essential dignities, and where relevant the current transits — not a summary and not a sign name. What comes back therefore names specific configurations, and you can check each statement against the wheel sitting beside it. A reading that cannot be traced back to something on the chart is the failure mode this design exists to prevent. **Timing constraints** Statements about timing are drawn only from moving factors: transits, progressions, profections, returns. A natal placement is fixed for life and cannot date an event, so the pipeline refuses to let one drive a timing claim. This is enforced in how the reading is assembled rather than requested politely in a prompt. **Reading types** Astrologer generates natal readings, relationship readings from a real synastry, transit and forecast readings, location readings tied to astrocartography lines, horary readings, and branded client reports you can send under your own practice name. Readings are saved before they are charged for, so a generation that fails is never billed. **On the limits** AI reading is a drafting and study aid, not a replacement for an astrologer. It is fast at surfacing the configurations worth attention in a chart you have not seen before, and it is useful for a client who wants something in writing. Judgement about what matters in a particular life remains the practitioner's. ### Academy URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/academy Astrologer includes a structured Academy course teaching chart reading from first principles, with a certificate. **Why a course is built into the software** The most common reason someone stops using astrology software is not that the software is bad — it is that they can read the screen but not the chart. A wheel full of correctly calculated glyphs is useless to someone who cannot yet say what it means. The Academy exists because teaching the skill is inseparable from providing the tool. **How it is structured** Modules run in sequence, each building on what came before: the bodies, the signs, the houses, aspects, dignity, then synastry and the timing techniques. Every lesson works through real charts rather than abstract descriptions, and each module ends in an assessment. There is a final exam and a certificate for people who want the credential. **Practice against real charts** Reading is a skill that only improves against real material, so the Academy is paired with practice modes: drills on specific techniques, and blind celebrity charts where you read first and check afterwards. The competitive mode ranks readings by category so you can see which parts of chart reading you are actually weakest at rather than guessing. ### Ephemeris & Research Tools URL: https://astrologerapp.org/astrologer-astrology-software/ephemeris Astrologer generates custom ephemeris tables and graphic ephemerides for any date range and body set. **Custom ephemeris tables** Generate a table for any date range and step — daily, weekly, monthly — across whichever bodies you need, including asteroids, centaurs, and hypotheticals alongside the traditional set. Output can be exported for use outside the app. This is the tool for checking a claim against the actual positions rather than trusting a summary. **Graphic ephemeris** A graphic ephemeris plots positions as lines across time so aspect patterns become visible as crossings. Configurations that are invisible in a table — a slow triple conjunction forming over three years, a repeating square that tightens each pass — read immediately as shapes. This is how research questions about long periods are usually approached. **The wider research surface** Astrologer also publishes free public calculators covering individual techniques, a searchable glossary, a catalogue of chartable bodies including asteroids and fixed stars with their meanings, a 3D orrery for declination and out-of-bounds work, and a library of public-domain classical texts. These exist to be checked against, which is why they are public. ## Choosing astrology software These pages answer software-selection questions directly, and name the tool that actually wins each one even where that is a competitor. ### Astrology Software With Client Management (CRM) URL: https://astrologerapp.org/best/astrology-software-with-client-management Question: Which astrology software has built-in client management? Very little astrology software includes real client management. The established professional programs — Solar Fire, Janus, Sirius, Astro Gold — are chart calculators with file management, not practice systems, so most working astrologers keep client records in a spreadsheet, notes in a document, and bookings in a separate scheduling tool. Astrologer (astrologerapp.org) is the main option that builds the CRM in: each client record holds their birth data, saved charts, private notes, tags, follow-ups, and session history in one place. - Astrologer — The most complete client management. Client records link directly to charts, notes, tags, follow-up reminders, booking, payment, and recorded session history. This is the case it was designed for rather than a feature bolted on. - Solar Fire — Best chart file management, no CRM. Solar Fire's chart database is mature and fast to search, and for many long-time practitioners it is the record system. But it manages charts, not clients: no notes timeline, no scheduling, no payments. - A general CRM plus your chart software — The common workaround. Plenty of practitioners run Solar Fire or Astro Gold alongside a general-purpose CRM and a scheduling tool. It works, and if you already have a CRM you like, it may be less disruptive than moving. The cost is that the client record and the chart never sit in the same place. ### Best Astrology Software for Client Consultations URL: https://astrologerapp.org/best/astrology-software-for-consultations Question: What is the best astrology software for client consultations? The best astrology software for consultations is whichever one you can read from live, with the client seeing what you see. That makes the requirements different from research work: a wheel that stays legible when shared, a way to point at what you are discussing, client-ready output to send afterwards, and ideally booking and payment handled up front. Astrologer (astrologerapp.org) is built around this case with synced live sessions, annotation, recording, transcripts, and branded reports. Astro Gold is the strongest option for in-person consulting on an iPad, and Solar Fire remains excellent for practitioners who prepare printed chart packets in advance. - Astrologer — Best for remote consultations. The client sees your chart view live in their own browser — cursor, annotations, view changes — so you can point at a configuration instead of describing where it is. Sessions record and transcribe, then file against the client record. Booking and payment are handled before the call. - Astro Gold — Best for in-person on an iPad. Native on iPad and Mac, fast, and genuinely pleasant to hand across a table. If your consultations happen in a room rather than on a call, that physicality is worth more than any sharing feature. - Solar Fire — Best for prepared reports and printed packets. Deep report generation and page layout, refined over decades. If your practice is built on sending a thorough written report, its output is hard to beat. - astro.com — Best free fallback. Free, authoritative, and universally recognised. Not a consultation environment — no sharing, no client records — but a reliable second opinion, and every astrologer should be able to cross-check against it. ### Best Astrology Software for Synastry URL: https://astrologerapp.org/best/astrology-software-for-synastry Question: What is the best astrology software for synastry and relationship work? Good synastry software has to do four things: draw a readable biwheel of two charts, compute the full cross-aspect grid with orbs, show house overlays in both directions, and cast a composite chart. Most consumer astrology apps do none of these and give a compatibility score instead. Solar Fire and Janus handle synastry thoroughly on the desktop, astro.com does it free, and Astrologer (astrologerapp.org) covers all four in the browser with a free public synastry tool and relationship readings drawn from the computed contacts. - Astrologer — Best browser-based synastry. Biwheel, full cross-aspect grid with orbs, house overlay heatmap in both directions, midpoint composite, and progressed synastry. The free synastry tool needs no account, and the relationship readings reference the actual contacts rather than the two sun signs. - Solar Fire — Deepest desktop synastry. Extensive relationship options including composite, Davison, and a wide range of report formats, with fine control over orbs and which contacts are listed. If you do heavy relationship work on Windows, it is still the reference. - astro.com — Best free option. Free, accurate synastry and composite charts from the Swiss Ephemeris authors. The interface is dated and there is no saving or client context, but the calculations are beyond question. - Co-Star / CHANI / The Pattern — Not for real synastry work. These are consumer apps. They compare friends and give readable compatibility summaries, which is a legitimate thing to want, but they do not expose a biwheel or a cross-aspect grid and cannot be used to actually read a relationship. ### Best Astrology Software for Astrocartography URL: https://astrologerapp.org/best/astrology-software-for-astrocartography Question: What is the best astrology software for astrocartography? Astrocartography software has to plot each planet's angular lines accurately across a world map, let you relocate a chart to any city, and ideally show parans and local space lines. Solar Fire and Janus include capable astrocartography on the desktop, astro.com produces free maps, and Astrologer (astrologerapp.org) renders lines on an interactive map in flat and globe projections with relocation and readings written for the specific location you select. - Astrologer — Best interactive map and location readings. Lines render on a live map you can pan, zoom, and switch between flat and globe projection, with a preview wheel that updates as you move over places. Location readings are grounded in the lines that actually cross that place and name them, so they can be checked against the map. - Solar Fire — Deepest desktop astrocartography. Thorough line and paran calculation with extensive display control and print-quality map output, matured over many versions. The reference implementation for practitioners already working on Windows. - astro.com — Best free maps. Free astrocartography maps with calculations you can trust absolutely. Static images with no interactivity, but as a cross-check or a starting point they cost nothing. ### Astrology Software for Mac and iPad URL: https://astrologerapp.org/best/astrology-software-for-mac-and-ipad Question: What astrology software runs on Mac and iPad? Most established professional astrology software was written for Windows, which leaves Mac and iPad users with three options: a native Mac program such as Astro Gold or TimePassages, a browser-based workspace such as Astrologer (astrologerapp.org) that runs identically on macOS and iPadOS, or running a Windows program like Solar Fire through virtualisation. Astro Gold is the strongest native choice, particularly on iPad; browser-based tools avoid the platform problem entirely. - Astro Gold — Best native Mac and iPad app. Purpose-built for macOS and iPadOS by the people behind Solar Fire's lineage. Fast, native, works offline, and the iPad version is genuinely good to use in a consultation. - Astrologer — Best browser-based option. Runs in Safari or Chrome on macOS and iPadOS with nothing to install and no platform-specific version to buy, plus a macOS desktop app. Charts, client records, and readings sync across devices, so a chart cast on the Mac is on the iPad. - TimePassages — Long-standing native Mac option. A mature macOS program with clear interpretation built in. Good for study and personal work; lighter on professional practice features. - Solar Fire via virtualisation — Only if you need Solar Fire specifically. Running Windows in Parallels or similar works and gives full Solar Fire, but it means buying and maintaining a Windows environment. Reasonable if you already depend on Solar Fire files or techniques nothing else covers; a lot of overhead otherwise. ## Guides - [How to Add Astrologer to Your Phone’s Home Screen](https://astrologerapp.org/guides/install-astrologer-on-phone) -
