Descendant Calculator
Your Descendant is the point directly opposite your rising sign — the cusp of the seventh house of relationships. It describes the qualities you are drawn to in others and what you look for in a partner. Because it depends on your Ascendant, it needs an exact birth time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Descendant in astrology?
The Descendant (DC) is the western angle of your chart, exactly opposite your Ascendant and marking the cusp of the seventh house. It represents partnership, marriage, and the qualities you seek — and sometimes project — onto the people you are closest to.
How is the Descendant calculated?
The Descendant always sits exactly 180° from your Ascendant, in the opposite sign. We find your rising sign from your exact birth time and place, then place the Descendant directly across the chart from it, so the two always form a perfect axis.
Why does the Descendant need an exact birth time?
Because it is anchored to your Ascendant, which changes sign roughly every two hours, an accurate birth time is essential. Without it, the wrong rising sign — and therefore the wrong Descendant — can be calculated.
