Natal Retrograde Calculator
When a planet was retrograde at your birth, its energy turns inward — worked out within yourself rather than projected onto the world. This calculator checks every planet in your chart and lists which ones were retrograde when you were born, with a short meaning for each.
Frequently asked questions
What does it mean to have a retrograde planet in your natal chart?
A natal retrograde planet was apparently moving backward (from Earth's view) at your birth. It does not malfunction — it internalizes. That planet's themes are processed inwardly, often in a more reflective, unconventional, or self-directed way, and can take longer to express outwardly before they mature into real strength.
Can the Sun or Moon be retrograde?
No. The Sun and Moon are never retrograde from Earth, so they are never part of a natal retrograde list. Mercury, Venus, and Mars go retrograde occasionally, while the outer planets — Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto — spend a large part of each year retrograde, so having one or more is very common.
Do I need an exact birth time for my retrograde planets?
Usually not. Whether a planet is retrograde changes very slowly, so your birth date and place are almost always enough to determine your natal retrogrades accurately. An exact time only matters for placing those planets in houses, which a full chart provides.
