It is the planet of taste, and taste is more revealing than preference — it shows what someone finds worth having. How Venus moves
Venus spends about three to five weeks in a sign and takes roughly eleven months to complete the zodiac, never straying more than 48 degrees from the Sun. It retrogrades once every eighteen months for about six weeks, tracing the five-pointed pattern across the zodiac that gets called the Venus rose.
Reading Venus as a transit
Venus transits are pleasant and mild, and reading too much into them is a common beginner error. Venus crossing a natal placement tends to make that part of life more agreeable for a few days, not to deliver a relationship. Where Venus genuinely matters for timing is by house: the house it is transiting is where money, aesthetics, and relations are getting attention, and that is a reasonable window for anything that depends on other people finding you agreeable.
Venus in a natal chart
Natal Venus describes the kind of affection that actually registers. This is more useful than it sounds, because people habitually give love in their own Venus style and are puzzled when it does not land — a Venus in Capricorn showing love through reliability, offered to a Venus in Leo who needed it said out loud. The house shows where the person seeks pleasure and what they treat as valuable.
Venus retrograde
Venus retrograde, once every eighteen months for six weeks, has a better-earned reputation than Mercury's. It corresponds to a period of revaluation: relationships and purchases begun under it often look different afterwards, and people from the past have a way of reappearing. The conventional advice against major aesthetic changes or big relationship commitments during it is not superstition so much as an observation that what looks appealing under a Venus retrograde is frequently reassessed once it stations direct.
